Upcoming GeoNET Meeting – September 27!

GIS Community:

GeoNET is coming!  Don’t miss our upcoming meeting.  PLEASE NOTE:  THIS IS A DIFFERENT DAY FROM WHAT WE DISCUSSED AT THE LAST MEETING DUE TO SCHEDULING CONFLICTS!
For those that don’t know, GeoNET is a comprehensive local GIS user network for the East Tennessee area, although we are open to interested people from any area.  This is an opportunity to discuss topics pertinent to all of our organizations in person, and to network with other GIS professionals.

The upcoming meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 10:30 AM.  Our speakers will be representatives from GeoJobe GIS Consulting.

GeoNET began as a way to gain a better understanding of what other GIS professionals in the area are doing, cover topics of mutual interest, talk about software issues, and listen to presentations from members and vendors.  Our meeting this month will include a roundtable discussion of GIS issues as well as a discussion of future focus for the group.  If you’d like to be influential in the direction we take over the next year, be sure to attend.

Don’t forget to sign up for (or just read) our blog at:
http://tngeonet.wordpress.com/

Or if you’re a Twitter fan, you can read the blog posts there… http://twitter.com/#!/tngeonet

You’ll get updates about upcoming meetings and GIS news from around the
region- but it’s people driven, so sign up and participate.  We are also looking for a few wordy souls who would like to update and add content.

The meeting location will be:

Tuesday, September 27 at 10:30 AM
Knoxville-McGhee Tyson Airport
Alcoa, TN
Third Floor, Community Room

(Please bring your parking stub upstairs for validation)

As discussed at our last GeoNET meeting, here is the link to the National Geographic Society’s Geotourism Mapguide focused on East Tennessee.  This is a collaborative project with mapping by NGS as well as input from local tourism groups, citizens and visitors.

Thanks to Monica Anderson for the link.

ESRI Changing Names of Software

After the game changer that E.S.R.I. could now be called ESRI (pronounced ez-ree), here comes the newest development from Redlands.  Gone are the confusing names for the different licensing levels, to be replaced with longer names that have the added benefit of a descriptive term.  They also include the conjunction “for”.  Info here.

h/t to Ray Boswell for the link.
